Types of Schnauzers

There are three different types of Schnauzers – the Giant Schnauzer, the Standard Schnauzer and the Miniatures Schnauzer.  Keep reading to learn about each of these different types of Schnauzers.

Giant SchnauzersGiant Schnauzers

  • Out of all the different types of Schnauzers, the Giant is definitely the largest.
  • As per their name, Giant Schnauzers are quite large. They will grow to a height of approximately twenty five to twenty seven inches (fifty six to sixty nine centimeters).
  • Giant Schnauzers are a vey intelligent, brave and loyal breed of dog.  Along with this, they are also prone to becoming very attached to their owners.
  • Due to their size, Giant Schnauzers are not really good living in apartments or small homes.  Ideally they need a bit of space – such as a house with a big backyard.
  • Out of all the types of Schnauzers, the Giant Schnauzer needs to be exercised the most due to their size.  So if you own a Giant Schnauzer, it’s vital if you exercise them every single day or even twice a day.   If not exercised properly the Giant Schnauzer may end up with excess energy, which in turn may make them hard to manage.
  • The Giant Schnauzer has a lifespan of approximately twelve to fifteen years.

Standard SchnauzersStandard Schnauzers

  • Standard Schnauzers are medium in size.  They will grow to a height of approximately eighteen to nineteen inches (forty five to forty seven centimeters) or thirty to forty pounds (thirteen to eighteen kilograms).
  • Like the other types of Schnauzers, the Standard Schnauzers is squarely built.
  • The Standard Schnauzer has a fantastic personality.  They are very brave, fun, intelligent and loyal.  However, like the other types of Schnauzers, without training they can become demanding and hard to handle.  Therefore, it’s important they are trained properly.
  • Although they are smaller than the Giant Schnauzers, Standard Schnauzers also need a lot of exercise.  A daily walk or trip to the local park are some great ways you can exercise your Standard Schnauzer.
  • Unlike the Giant Schnauzer, the Standard Schnauzer can live in a smaller home without a backyard.
  • The Standard Schnauzer will live approximately fifteen years or even longer.

Miniature SchnauzersMiniature Schnauzers

  • The Miniature Schnauzer is the smallest of all the different types of Schnauzers.  The Miniature Schnauzer will grow to a height of approximately thirteen to fourteen inches (thirty three to thirty six centimeters).
  • Like the other types of Schnauzers, the Miniature Schnauzer is squarely built.
  • Like all the other types of Schnauzers, the Miniature Schnauzer also has a fantastic personality.  They are fun, loyal, loving and smart.  Again, the Miniature Schnauzer needs to be trained correctly otherwise they can be come strong-minded and may not listen to their owners.
  • Due to their small size, the Miniature Schnauzer is fine to live in apartments or small homes.
  • Even though the Miniature Schnauzer is the smallest of all the types of Schnauzers, they still need to be exercised daily.  This is really important to keep your Miniature Schnauzer nice and healthy.
  • The Miniature Schnauzer will live approximately fifteen years.

As you can see from the above, all types of Schnauzers are amazing.  Not only do they all have great physical features, but they also have fantastic personalities.  So if you are thinking about adding a Schnauzer to your family, then you certainly are making the right choice!
