The Difference Between Designer Dogs and Mongrel Dogs

Miniature Schnauzer MixesBefore we delve into the various types of Miniature Schnauzer mixes, you need to firstly learn the differences between designer dogs and mongrel dogs.

A lot of people think that two dogs crossed together equals a mongrel dog.  This is not the truth at all.  A mongrel dog is made of many different types of dogs.  Whereas, a designer dog is made by crossing two purebred dogs.  For example if you cross a purebred Schnauzer with a purebred Dachshund, the end result would be a puppy that was 50% Schnauzer and 50% Dachshund and therefore classed as a designer dog.  However if one of these resulting designer dogs was then crossed with another Schnauzer, then the resulting puppies would be 75% Schnauzer and 25% Dachshund and would therefore be classed as mongrels.

Because of this, if you are thinking of creating a Schnauzer mixed designer dog, then you need to make sure that both dogs are definitely purebreds.
